Corporate Wellness: An Investment, Not Expense

Many small employers are struggling to find cost-effective health insurance coverage for their employees. The costs continue to rise with no end game in sight. The good news is that there are a few solutions that have recently become available. Level funded programs and partially self-funded programs allow small employers to be medically underwritten. This means that the healthier your employees are, the less you’ll pay in health insurance costs. The insurance carriers are allowed to cherry pick desirable groups. The carriers are looking for employers who are committed to lowering costs, place a high value in wellness, and encourage consumerism.

According to the Centers of Disease Control (www.cdc.gov), 6 out of 10 Americans have a chronic health condition.  4 out of 10 Americans are managing two or more chronic conditions. By the year 2030, a mere 10 years from now, 80 million people in this country will be managing 3 OR MORE chronic conditions.

Wellness is needed. Poor lifestyle choices are the biggest contributors to disease in this country.  One size fits all wellness programs do not work. There are millions of unhealthy people walking around wearing Fitbits.  There are millions of people signed up for a $10 a month fitness club that never go to the gym.  Let me repeat: 4 out of 10 Americans are managing two or more chronic health conditions.  We have some control over the biggest input factor to those conditions and yet many of us will not take appropriate action to alter our lifestyle.  Many people want to live a healthier life but don’t know where to get started. Canned wellness program will not get you where you need to go.  Employers who invest in these programs should not be surprised by the lack of Return On Investment. Just like a company needs a leader, a wellness program needs a coach.  Wellness programs that are not customized do not provide the return on investment employers NEED to have to see results.

What if you partner with True North Performance where we will show your employees how to make living a healthier life, easier?   We will customize a wellness program for your employees that actually moves the needle in the right direction.

If you are looking to increase the overall health and wellness of your employee base while at the same time helping control insurance costs you need to invest in Wellness. It is not an expense. We need a paradigm shift here.  A customized wellness program is an investment in your business. It is a necessary investment in your life.  If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.
