Tick, tock, 5AM…. Ring!!! (Insert the most ear-piercing alarm buzzer known on the planet!) You guessed it, it’s go-time. While I don’t necessarily coach classes at 5AM, it’s the behind-the-scenes-not-so-glamourous side of owning a gym, a nutrition coaching business, and assisting corporate clients with employee wellness that necessitate an early wake time… and I couldn’t be happier about it. I am passionate about helping others live a healthier life.
My health experience includes 25 years in the health insurance industry, several coaching and fitness certifications, and a nutrition coaching certification. In my experience, I had the opportunity to work with many clients, employees, and employers and saw first-hand the need for quality wellness programs. The desire for wellness is there but the knowledge on how to implement an effective program that builds in accountability isn’t up to par. We’ve been able to partner with our clients to show them a better way to infuse a culture of wellness into their lives.
Working with people to improve their total well-being is my biggest motivator. It started after my own trials and tribulations with being overweight, disordered eating, and leading an inactive and unhealthy lifestyle. Man… have I been THERE. The journey to a healthier lifestyle, gaining mental clarity, and living a life with purpose took some time but slowly the evolution happened and I haven’t looked back. Changing my habits (one small habit at a time) led to me to eating better and exercising to becoming a multi-marathon runner. I discovered CrossFit after the running took its toll on my joints. Eventually, I became a member at a CrossFit gym which manifested into earning my CrossFit L1, then my L2 Coaching certification, and then buying the gym in which I was a member.
Based on my own experiences, my biggest takeaways are don’t wait to start improving your health and small habits matter. Small habits compound over time and can have a dramatic effect on your life. Don’t wait to get started… start taking baby steps now because it will lead to successes later. I believe our own gratitude keeps us grounded for all the good things we have in life, but sometimes people neglect to remember or celebrate the positives. Take the time to celebrate the little things in life such as small accomplishments, family time, laughter, a walk, or a cup of coffee with a good friend. All of it contributes to your total well-being.
If you made it this far in my story, know that I’m wishing you all kinds of happiness, health, and success in your wellness journey.

I grew up in the semi-small town of Ironwood, Michigan, on the very west end of the Upper Peninsula. I was raised by parents who have (and continue to be) very supportive. As far back as I can remember, sports and being active have been a driving force in my life. In high school, it was every sport of every season. Post high school, it was collegiate basketball. The values, character traits, and friendships forged from competitive sports propelled me to be where I am today.
My post-college career didn’t start in the fitness field, instead it started…back at college. I started working at a local college with an 8-4 office job and was on the coaching staff for the men’s basketball team. While I felt right at home coaching basketball, far too often I would wake up in the morning wishing the next 8 hours away…day after day. It was not a life full of potential and fulfilling moments. We should be excited when the alarm goes off each morning, right?
The turning point came when my best friend introduced me to CrossFit sometime in 2012. I remember asking him, “What are we going to do after we do this workout?” He laughed, knowing there wouldn’t need to be “something else” afterward. Like most peoples’ first CrossFit workout, I was crushed. Muscles on fire, covered in sweat…and hooked. For the first time in months, I felt alive. The same way that all my years of competitive sports had made me feel.
I live by idea that we are either evolving and improving or we are falling behind. The same does not exist. With this in mind, I started to study human movement, CrossFit, nutrition, mobility, aspects of physical therapy, mindset…anything I could to better me. The only limits we have are the ones we create, right? So why not go for it? With a new passion for life after sports, I decided to take a run at coaching full time so that I could help as many people as possible who might benefit from the same new lease on life that I received.
I moved to Green Bay in the fall of 2014. I am a NASM certified personal trainer, CrossFit L2 Trainer, and have certifications in Movement and Mobility and well as CrossFit Gymnastics.
I wake up excited every morning knowing that I’ll have a lot of opportunities to make someone’s day better or that if I do my job, I’ll make a lasting positive impact on everyone that I get to work with. My hope is that one day, I’ll get to work with you, too.

I have been at various stages of my fitness journey over the last 20 years. The one thing that remained the same was my commitment to consistency.
I have gone through the different styles of working out; cardio, training to run a half marathon, lifting weights in a conventional gym, and even home aerobic style workouts in front of my TV. When I found CrossFit 7 years ago, it took one class to get me hooked. The community, the coaching, and the style of workout, was not something I had experienced before. Constantly varied functional movements at high intensity. My love for this style of workout led to eventually obtaining my CrossFit L1 coaching certificate. I wanted to dig deeper into the science behind the why and the how. I also wanted to be better educated so that I could teach my kids. This led to helping neighbors, friends and now those at True North Performance.
I realized in this thing we call life, it was ok to put my health and fitness on the front line in order to be the best I possibly could be for my family. And knew I wanted to inspire and help others do the same. My passion for wanting to help others be the best form of themselves has also spilled over into fulfilling my dream of being a firefighter. To serve the very community in which I live and am raising my children is the biggest honor I could imagine.
I would not be where I am in this journey without the continuous support of my partner in crime, Steven, and all our kids Will, Liz, Kasia & Kyle. And must I not forget our 3 fur babies Charlee, Dakota, & Maddox.
